A Commercial Roof Is a Different Problem

The roofing itself is not that different. What is different is everything around it: the building has to keep operating, there is stock, equipment or animals underneath that cannot get wet, there are staff and customers on site, and somebody has to justify the spend.

So a light commercial job is mostly a planning job. We work out the sequence first - which sections come off in which order, when the noisy work happens, how the building stays weathertight overnight - and then we do the roofing. Getting that right is what stops a re-roof from costing you more in disruption than it costs in invoices.

What We Take On

  • Workshops, garages and storage sheds. Re-roofs and new roofs on the kind of steel-framed and timber-framed buildings found on every industrial street and every farm in Taranaki.
  • Small retail, hospitality and office premises. Where the work has to happen without closing the doors, and often outside trading hours.
  • Farm buildings. Implement sheds, calf sheds, woolsheds and lean-tos across the dairy country around Stratford, Eltham, Inglewood and Hāwera.
  • Extensions and lean-tos on existing commercial buildings, tied into the existing roof properly so the junction does not become the leak.

We call it light commercial deliberately. Large industrial roofs, multi-storey buildings and jobs needing cranes and traffic management are not what we are set up for, and we would rather tell you that on the phone than find out on site.

Keeping Your Business Running

On a commercial re-roof the questions we ask first are about your operation, not the roof: when are you busiest, what is underneath each section, is there anything that cannot be moved, and are there hours we should avoid. Then we build the programme around the answers. On a farm that might mean working around milking; on a shop it might mean starting early and stopping before the doors open.

The building stays weathertight throughout. We strip only as much as we can close in the same day, whatever the forecast says, and we tell you each morning which section is being worked on so nothing underneath it is caught out.

Internal Gutters and Low Pitches

The two things that go wrong most often on a commercial roof in Taranaki are an internal gutter that cannot cope with the rainfall and a low-pitch roof with the wrong profile on it. Both are cheap to get right at the start and expensive to fix afterwards. We size gutters and downpipes for Taranaki rain, not for a national average, and we will tell you plainly if the profile you have been quoted elsewhere is below its minimum pitch.

Commercial Roofing Questions

Can you work outside our trading hours?

Yes. Our normal hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, but on a commercial job where the work has to happen around your customers or your milking we will programme it to suit. Raise it when you first get in touch and we will build the quote around it.

How big a building will you take on?

Sheds, workshops, small retail and farm buildings - the sort of job a small crew can do well in days rather than weeks. If your building needs a crane, traffic management or a multi-week programme, tell us on the phone and we will give you a straight answer on whether it is one for us.

Do you provide a written quote and programme?

Always. The quote names the product, profile and colour, with scaffolding, disposal and GST as separate lines, and it comes with the proposed sequence and dates so you can plan around it.
