About Weather Guard Roofing
A family owned and operated roofing company based in New Plymouth, working right across Taranaki. With you from the first look at the roof through to the last clean-up.
Who We Are
Weather Guard Roofing is a family business. We started in October 2025, in New Plymouth, with a straightforward idea about how a roofing company should work: turn up when we said we would, do clean work, and finish on the date we agreed. Those are the three things people tell us they struggle to find in a tradesperson, and they are the whole business.
Being family owned and operated means the person who comes out to quote your roof is the person who does the work. There is no sales rep, no call centre and no subcontractor you have never met. You get one number to ring for the whole job, from the first look through to the final walk around, and the same number afterwards if anything ever needs looking at again.
We are based in New Plymouth and we work the whole of Taranaki: Bell Block, Waitara and Inglewood close to home; Ōakura and Ōpunake on the coast; Stratford, Eltham, Hāwera, Manaia and Pātea to the south. Residential and light commercial. New roofs, re-roofs, and roofing for sheds, workshops and farm buildings.
Clean Work
It sounds like a small thing. It is the thing people remember. A roofing job produces a surprising amount of mess - old sheets, old flashings, offcuts, packaging, and a great many sharp fixings - and where it ends up says everything about the roofer. We stack and remove as we go, we run a magnet over the lawn and the gardens before we leave, and we hand the property back the way we found it. The roof is what you paid for; the tidy site is what tells you it was done with care.
Quick, Honest Deadlines
The other thing we built the business on. Before a job starts you get a start date and a finish date, and we keep to them. On a re-roof that means your house is not sitting half done under scaffold for weeks. On a new build it means the next trade is not waiting on us. And if the weather does what Taranaki weather does, we tell you straight away rather than going quiet.
How We Quote
We will not price a roof we have not looked at. Anyone can give you a price per square metre over the phone, and it is worth almost nothing, because the cost of a roof is decided by the things you cannot see from the driveway. So we come out, get up there, measure properly, look at the timber and the flashings, and photograph anything you cannot see from the ground. Then you get a written quote naming the product, the profile and the colour, with scaffolding, disposal and GST shown separately.
And if the honest answer is that your roof has ten good years left and needs two flashings and a wash, that is what we will tell you.
How We Work
- One point of contact. The same person from the first phone call to the last walk around.
- A written, itemised quote after we have actually looked at the roof, never a guess over the phone.
- Start and finish dates you can plan around, agreed before we begin.
- Scaffold and edge protection on every job, including single storey.
- Watertight every night. We strip only what we can close in the same day.
- Specified for the address. Coastal-grade material and fixings wherever the salt reaches, without being asked.
- A clean site - old material gone, fixings picked up, gardens checked.
Roofers Across Taranaki
We are based in New Plymouth and work the whole of Taranaki - Bell Block, Waitara and the north, the coast, and south through Stratford and Hāwera and beyond.
Roofing in New Plymouth
Our home town, and the base we work from. The biggest share of our work, from the older villas and bungalows of Westown, Vogeltown and Fitzroy through to the new subdivisions. Anything near the coast gets fixings and a coating grade chosen for salt air, not just for looks.
Roofing in Stratford
Central Taranaki sits on the wet side of the maunga and gets a great deal more rain than the coast, so flashings, laps and the fall on every gutter get more attention here than anywhere else we work. Forty minutes down the highway from us.
Roofing in Inglewood
Twenty minutes down the road from us on the northern flank of the mountain. Wet, exposed to the westerly, and with a lot of older weatherboard homes whose original corrugate has done sixty years and is now letting go around the nail heads.
Roofing in Eltham
Dairy country with a lot of solid old villas and a good number of sheds and workshops. Plenty of long, low roofs that are simple to re-roof well and easy to re-roof badly.
Roofing in Hāwera
South Taranaki's main town. A mix of older housing stock, newer builds on the edges, and light commercial buildings along the highway that need to keep trading while the roof is replaced.
Roofing in Waitara
Coastal and low-lying at the river mouth. Salt, wind and a lot of roofs from the 1960s and 70s coming to the end of their working life all at once.
Questions People Ask About Us
Are you a new company?
Yes - we started trading in October 2025. What that means for you is a small, hungry family business that answers the phone, turns up, and cares a great deal about every job, because every job is our reputation.
Do you do the work yourselves?
Yes. Weather Guard Roofing is family owned and operated, and the person who quotes your roof is on the roof doing the work.
What roofing do you specialise in?
Longrun metal roofing - corrugate and trapezoidal profiles - on new builds, re-roofs and light commercial buildings. It is what suits Taranaki's weather and most Taranaki budgets, and it is what we do every day.
Where are you based?
New Plymouth. Most of the region is within an hour of us, and we work the whole of it - from Waitara and Bell Block round the coast to Ōpunake, and south through Stratford and Hāwera to Pātea.
